Die Ausstellung NEO-GEMSTONES ist ein Kooperationsprojekt von Sofie Boons von der University of the West of England in Bristol mit jungen Künstler:innen des GABRIELE SPACE, dem KÜR und Studierendender Hochschule Trier im Fachbereich Edelstein und Schmuck und ist Teil der Munich Jewellery Week.
We live in a material world, where some are deemed desirable, genuine, and useful, and others are dismissed as cheap, fake, and disposable.
Inspired by the themes investigated in Sofie Boons’ practice-based research on Neo-gemstones, this exhibition centres the practice of urban mining, transmutational re-use and the social construct of value to provoke.
When waste rubies can be grown in-situ in jewellery, garnets can be engineered to glow in the dark and diamonds can be mined from industry to bling things, shouldn’t we look beyond labels and rethink what we consider unvaluable?
Positioning Sofie’s artistic outcomes in conversation with the work of students and starting artists of the Department of Gemstone and Jewellery TUAS, GABRIELE SPACE and KÜR Project, you are invited to inspect these objects as productive objections and expand your own material-realisations.

Unter dem Titel „durch*wachsen” präsentierten Nicolas Louis Franz Dinh, Rocco Dumot, Helena Nowotny, Sabrina Lößl-Lamboy, Silvie Redlich, Motte Paula Stinshoff und Lena-Maria Stupitzky für den GABRIELE SPACE eine gemeinsame Arbeit.

Raum gewinnen, wachsen. Kaum angekommen, schon wieder weg. Pilze. Tauben. Stacheln. Organisch, anorganisch, einladend, abweisend. Das Objekt – eine Metapher. Netzwerke, Räume und Rhizome sind in der aktuellen Kunstdebatte allgegenwärtig. Der Diskurs wirft die Frage nach transdisziplinärem, partizipativem und permeablem Handeln auf. Die Forderung nach Sichtbarkeit und Aneignung in kulturellen Räumen beschäftigt auch die sieben jungen Kreativen aus dem GABRIELE SPACE. Die kreativen Hintergründe der Teilnehmer:innen sind ebenso vielfältig wie der Diskurs und die Frage nach Repräsentation. Es entstehen Verbindungen, Netzwerke und Kollaborationen an denen alle beteiligten wachsen.
